The CYL Mentees were also joined by representatives from the Alberta Meat and Livestock Agency (ALMA) and the Alberta Cattle Feeders&#8217; Association. That morning,<\/p>\n<p>participants heard from Rob McNabb (General Manager of the CCA), Gordon Cove (ALMA), Reynold Bergen (Beef Cattle Research Council), Cindy Delaloye (Canadian Beef Grading Agency), Annemarie Pederson (Canada Beef Inc.) and Brian Perrilat (Canfax). Then we were off to see the Cargill Meat Solutions Plant in High River. Once our tour of the plant was finished we were joined by the General Manager of the High River plant, Scott Entz, and the General Manager of the Spruce Grove plant, Tim Hardman. Many of the participants of the forum agreed that this stop was a highlight!<\/p>\n<p>The next day saw our tour start at the Lethbridge Research Centre with presentations on hot topics such\u00a0as E. Coli and animal welfare. Cargill once again hosted our group as we toured their Animal Nutrition plant in Lethbridge. Our next two stops were at feedlots in the area. First we were toured around Kasko Feedlot and saw such things as the potatoes that are a part of their ration, their corn crop that was nearly ready for harvest, GrowSafe watering system, and pen set up. Then it was on to Kolk Farms where we saw their indoor handling system, yards, electronic record keeping, and pen set up among other sights. Our final stop was back in Calgary at AdFarm, an agricultural advertising agency. Kim McConnell, one of our mentors and founder of AdFarm was our host. He gave us a tour of their unique office that is designed to reflect the strength of the grain industry in Alberta, complete with some of the interior decor and furnishings purchased from UFA.
